Panasonic PT-AX200E Review

Panasonic PT-AX200E (PT-AX200U is the American model) High definition home theatre projector.

We couldn't wait to get our hands on the Panasonic PT-AX200E. We opened the box and got fairly dissapointed. OK OK it wasn't bad but it wasn't anough of a change in my book. The unit has the same specifications and features as the AX100. The difference is in the software and the extra HDMI port. No reason to upgrade.

It features a true high definition resolution of WXGA 1280 X 720 and is equipped with whopping 6,000:1 contrast ratio for the very strong blacks and well defined colours. The AX200 is also incredibly quiet with a barely audible 26dB noise rating, way under the average rating of approximately 30-35dB. As one of the brightest home theatre projectors available at 2000 lumens, the unit can also be used in semi-lit rooms without sacrificing the image quality!

It features lense shift and a 2.0x zoom lens so it is quite easy to place in almost any room. This is only surpassed by the Epson EMP-TW700 with a 2.2x zoom lens.

We liked the image being bright and contrasty with top notch colour reproduction. We tested on some DVD's and gave it a few rounds on the xbox 360 with good performance. The only qualms we had aside from the fact that this new unit wasn't terribly revolutionary is the smoothing technology panasonic have employed from the AX100. Though the intention is to make a more fim like image we find it makes it look a tad off focus.

All up it's a good unit and it will continue to be successful but for a sharper picture, more contrast and a replacement lamp that's half the price we'd recommend the Epson EMP-TW700.
