W1080ST Full High Definition Short Throw DLP Home Theatre Projector Review

BenQ have always made excellent projectors and with the W1080ST they have brought in a new age where you can buy a Full HD projector with good colour and true 3D capability but with a handy short throw lens!

They haven't skimped to keep the price down; the W1080ST is sharp and detailed with good brightness of 2000 lumens allowing for a bit of light in the room. The short throw lens offers the ability to keep the projector close to the wall or screen while getting a huge image. For example even with a massive 100inch image size (2.2metres wide) you can have the projector at 1.5metres from the screen. This short throw lens offers a fantastic option for people with installation restrictions like ceiling fans or air conditioning ducts.
With 10,000:1 contrast it gives good shading and works well with everything from a DVD and Bluray movie to a games console or computer game. The next step up with the same detail will be something like the Epson TW6100 but will cost double the price.
The 3D functionality works quite well without any setup trouble and compatibility with all the major formats including nvidia 3D from computers, the 3D glasses are $149.95each.

Runnings costs are also kept to a minimum with a long lamp life of up to 6,000 hours and a replacement cost of just $249. The W1080ST projector size is quite small for a home theatre projector offering an unobtrusive chassis and a nice white and silver combination of chassis colours and even comes with a carry case.

All this coupled with two HDMI ports a component connection and the more basic S-video and composite makes the BenQ W1080ST a great value home theatre projector, at a great price. Though there are better theatre projectors out there, you have to literally double the price.
